Consultation

For hair loss or scalp issues, it’s vital to seek a specially trained trichologist rather than relying on self-diagnosis or off-the-shelf products.

What Happens?

TrichoCentre appointments are for adults aged 18 and over. They’re private and not NHS-funded. Check with your insurance provider to see if you’re covered. At your first appointment, you’ll sign a consent form agreeing to the information. Initial appointments usually last 45-60 minutes, but may be longer.

Our specially trained trichologist will examine your hair and scalp, investigate your health, family history, nutrition, lifestyle, medication, and other factors.

If you’ve seen your GP, don’t worry. GPs and trichologists may not always look for the same things, and your health is different from your hair and scalp health.

How To Prepare

Before your initial appointment, fill out the registration form. Don’t wash your hair 24 hours beforehand. If you take regular prescription medications, bring them. If you’ve had blood tests in the last 3-6 months, request a printout or bring the results.

After your initial appointment, you can book a private home blood test from another company at an extra cost. Although, blood tests may not always be necessary. Our specially trained trichologist will review the results with you, along with your scalp examination, to provide you with honest, accurate, and relevant information.

Examination

During your initial appointment, you’ll consent to a thorough examination of your hair and scalp using visual, magnification equipment, and a digital trichoscope to assess your hair and scalp health.

Digital trichoscopy, a standard practice at TrichoCentre since 2015, enables us to examine your skin, hair, and follicles under high magnification, providing an honest and accurate assessment. Scalp irritation during examination, is rare, but inform the person if it occurs. The digital trichoscope may cause mild discomfort during introduction or removal, but this is uncommon.

After your consultation and examination, our specially trained trichologist will discuss your condition in detail, providing accurate information to help you identify the cause, choose treatment, and minimise concerns.
Digital progress photography and trichoscopy may be used later to evaluate the effectiveness of your treatment.
